THE 2019 Tour of Pembrokeshire Prologue Ride was held at Crug Glas, near St Davids in wet and windy weather recently.

Riders were given a choice of two routes of either 25 or 40 miles with the furthest following the coast to Little Haven. Both routes passed through Newgale where they faced one of the many challenging climbs as they headed towards Penycwm.

Tour of Pembrokeshire Organiser Peter Walker said: "The Prologue event provides a wonderful opportunity for us to get riders, supporters, suppliers and beneficiaries together to spend a few hours socialising and sharing ideas ahead of the main event in May."

One of the riders, Alison Lewis from Lawrenny said: "The organisation was fantastic and made the day hugely enjoyable. We rode in small groups according to your chosen pace, it was particularly tough because of the wind and rain but you really felt you'd accomplished something by the time you reached the finish. The staff at Crug Glas were charming and they looked after us so well providing warm showers and a delicious lunch."

A highlight of the day was the visit by Prostate Cymru Ambassador Eddie Butler who'd managed to find time away from preparing for this year's Six Nations to attend as guest speaker.

During an interview Eddie said: "Nobody seems to know the reason why but Welsh men are more prone to prostate cancer than any others in the UK and it's the biggest killer of men in the UK. Events like the Tour of Pembrokeshire help us to raise funds for treatment, research and raising awareness."

This year's Tour of Pembrokeshire will be held on Saturday 18th May. For full details of the event, its supporters and charities or to enter or volunteer please visit: tourofpembrokeshire.co.uk
