A PEMBROKE insurance broker, facing a number of personal issues including the death of his mother, took his own life, an inquest heard.

The body of Brendon Martin Rudge, 24, was found at his home by his partner on August 7.

At the November 15 inquest, Coroner’s Officer Jeremy Davies said insurance broker Mr Rudge had moved to Pembrokeshire in 2017, having previously worked in Carmarthenshire.

The inquest heard Mr Rudge had taken his mother’s death very hard after she passed away from cancer.

On August 3, partner Jadie Gwyther, who shared his home, met him at Pembroke station.

She told Mr Rudge she knew he had met someone else.

“Mr Rudge opened up to her about how he was feeling inside, the loss of his mother and financial problems,” said Mr Davies. “Miss Gwyther said she was going to stay at her mother’s house to give him a chance to think things through.”

At 4.10am on August 4, Miss Gwyther received a phone call from a friend of Mr Rudge, stating a Facebook post had worried him; asking if he was there with her.

The contents of the Facebook posting were described as “indicative of his intentions” to take his life.

Miss Gwyther, with her stepfather, went to Thomas Street.

There was no answer at the door; Mr Rudge was found inside.

An ambulance was called, with CPR attempted by crew members.

Mr Rudge was declared to have passed away shortly after 5am.

A post-mortem report by Dr John Murphy stated Mr Rudge’s death was caused by hanging.

Alcohol and traces of cocaine were found in his system.

Reaching a conclusion of suicide, HM Coroner for Pembrokeshire Mark Layton said: “Brendon Martin Rudge had a number of personal issues and was deeply affected by the death of his mother; he has taken deliberate steps to end his life.”
