A taxi driver is in a critical condition after he was cut from his car following a two vehicle collision at Milton earlier this morning (Sunday).

The A477 has now reopened after it was closed for several hours while emergency services dealt with the incident involving a taxi and an ambulance car which was responding to an emergency.

The taxi-driver is reported to be in a critical condition, and his passengers, two adults and two teenagers were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The ambulance did not have any patients on board, and its driver suffered slight injuries according to police.

Cllr Paul Dowson was one of the first to arrive on the scene following the collision, and helped the casualties.

He said: “The ambulance driver got out of wreckage of his own car and two of us did what we could.”

Cllr Dowson, who has first aid training, hung through the rear window of the taxi and held the driver’s head while fire-fighters spent an hour cutting off the car roof.

He described the injured ambulance car driver as a 'true hero', who despite some broken bones he would not leave the casualty until his colleagues arrived.

The road was closed in both directions until 9.30am while the vehicles were recovered from the Fingerpost Junction area, Upper Nash, and debris was cleared from the carriageway.

Police, paramedics and fire crews from Pembroke Dock and Tenby attended the scene.
