Emergency responders on the Isle of Skye have complained the “most difficult part” of a rescue operation was getting parked near a landmark site.

Problems with traffic due to tourism on the picturesque Scottish island have long been raised by residents and organisations, but have significantly heightened in recent years.

Now Skye Mountain Rescue Team has complained about struggling to find somewhere to safely park near the Old Man of Storr while trying to reach a casualty.

The emergency responders were called to the popular site on Tuesday afternoon to help someone who had suffered a leg injury.

The rescuers tweeted: “Another call-out to the Storr again this afternoon to assist @Scotambservice with a casualty who had sustained a leg injury. This one was unusual in that the most difficult part of the rescue was getting the team parked safely at the location… #chaos”

Police Scotland issued a warning to vistors in 2017 not to turn up unless accommdation was already booked.

A lack of infrastrcuture around the island to cope with the number of holidaymakers – particularly during the peak season – has also been a longstanding issue.
