Dear Editor, On Monday next, April 26th at 4pm in Cardigan's Small World Theatre, Cardigan Town Council will be launching a 'Youth Council' initiative in the town.

We have a talented youth brimming with opinions and ideas about what the town does right and what it can do better. It is our responsibility to give them the opportunities to express their views and it is with this in mind that we are launching this initiative. This is very much an intiative that Cllr Wynne Evans on the Town Council has long campaigned for and I've put my efforts as Mayor this year into making it happen. I have been assisted with great help from Sarah Wright, who has been advertising the launch with posters around town.

Over the past eight months I have spoken to the School Council at Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi and also to a number of different classes in Coleg Ceredigion about the idea. There has been great enthusiasm for the venture but now, with the launch event days away, I ask those young people in our community who want to make their voice heard to come along and to do just that.

This will be a Youth Council for the youth and will be moulded as they think best. I ask those reading this to come along and for parents to pass on the word and to encourage their children aged 11 upwards to attend.

This is your chance to have your voice heard - grab it.

Mark Cole Mayor of Cardigan
