A man accused of harassing a former partner despite being the subject of a restraining order has been cleared of all three charges against him.

Mark Lewis, aged 36, then of Maesglas, Cardigan was charged with twice going to the home of Nia Mary Davies in contravention of the order and of assaulting her during one of the visits.

But a jury at Swansea crown court found him not guilty after a two day trial.

The court heard that the restraining order had been made by Aberystwyth magistrates after he had been accused of harassing Miss Davies, a teaching assistant.

Lewis did not deny turning up at her home in Felin Ban, Cardigan, on September 25 last year, and again on October 12.

But his defence was that the restraining order prevented him from going to the address unless he had been invited to do so by Miss Davies.

Lewis said he had arranged to take the couple's two children to Teifimania on September 26 and it had been suggested he might like to stay at Felin Ban the night before, and October 12 had been their son's birthday and he had been expected.

He told police the first visit had ended with Miss Davies biting his finger and he may have pushed her away in self defence.

But, he stressed, he had never kicked her to the head as she had alleged.

During the trial Miss Davies agreed that, despite the restraining order, she would invite Lewis to her home from time to time and she had in fact become pregnant by him.
