It’s now only a few months before Cardigan starts the celebrations for its 900th anniversary in 2010.

The 2010 committee have been meeting regularly over the past year, with sub committees covering music, marketing and history also pulling out all the stops.

The calendar of events for next year is growing week by week.

The Tivy-Side will be regularly publishing details of what’s going on for Cardigan’s special year starting this autumn and continuing throughout 2010.

2010 will kick off with a New Year’s Eve dinner and raffle at the Guildhall - details for tickets are available from local hairdresser Jackie Edwards in the High Street.

Other events include a racing and boxing evening with Grand National winner Hywel Davies at the Guildhall in February organised by Cardigan Boxing Club plus a twmpath at the same venue later that month.

March will see a special celebratory eisteddfod, while in April there will be a photographic display at Theatr Mwldan plus celebrations for the 125th anniversary of the Bedyddwyr Cylch Aberteifi in Capel Bethania.

There will also be a special concert and tea at St Mary’s Church with Ar Ol Tri, Rhocesi and royal harpist Claire Jones.

In May Opera Teifi will be putting on a production of Diva Opera at Theatr Mwldan and the 2010 committee will be having a special stand at the Urdd Eisteddfod in Llanerchaeron.

In June, Gwrando will be putting on a concert in Bethania; there will also be an exhibition of photographs and items from the 2010 scanning days.

A special children’s show is being staged by Gwyl fawr Aberteifi just before the eisteddfod itself at the beginning of July.

Later that month CADAAM will be putting on an exhibition of Wil Trewindsor’s farming equipment and the month will close with open air hymn singing and Cardigan Agricultural Show.

August is the main month of celebrations with the Red Lion pub staging a festive week and the River and Food Festival plus the central festive week itself which kicks off on August 14.

On August 15 there will be a civic service and flower festival at |St Mary’s church with a concert by harpist Delyth Jenkins on August 17.

Cardigan Boating Club will be doing a pageant on the river on August 18 and there will be a special gala dinner on August 19.

August 20 sees local rock band Jess reforming in a special one-off concert at Theatr Mwldan and Studt’s Fair will be kicking off its Big Weekend with fair rides in the centre of town.

The star-studded gala concert is on August 21 and the night will end with a spectacular firework display.

o Remember a scanning day for any old photographs or items of interest is being held on Friday, October 30 this year at the Guildhall from 10am to 5pm.
