Leader of the opposition in the Welsh Assembly, Nick Bourne AM has joined the fight to get Cardigan’s Tesco junction re-opened.

The AM for Mid and West Wales has written to deputy first minister Ieuan Wyn Jones about "the urgent requirement to re-open the junction".

He said: "Clearly the Bath-house project in the town is causing both traffic and access problems and once again, the Minister seems not to want to get involved in this even though it his responsibility.

"It seems that people are really struggling to pin down the deputy first minister on anything at the moment regarding transport issues within Ceredigion. I know that both Cardigan Chamber of Commerce and members of the town council have asked that Ieuan Wyn Jones gives this issue his most urgent attention."

Mr Bourne added: "I was actually refused a meeting with the deputy first minister early on Wendesday which had been scheduled over two weeks previously to discuss the crucial funding shortfall of £10.5 million for the Ceredigion Link Road. Sadly, it is not only the Cardigan Chamber of Commerce who are ‘sick and tired of being fobbed off’ in this way."

Mr Bourne has now written to Mr Jones about the Tesco junction.

"There are safety grounds now that construction work is underway on the Bath-house project.

"In so far as these important matters which concern Ceredigion are concerned, the deputy first Minister needs to be open to scrutiny and make himself available to both constituents and elected representatives alike," he added.
