A 47-year-old man has been hospitalised with life-changing injuries after a collision with a lorry.
The collision, which happened on the M4 at around 1am, involved a lorry and car.
The 47-year-old man was driving a Toyota MR2 when it collided with a Mercedes goods vehicle.
The motorway was closed for several hours following the crash and reopened early this morning at around 6am.
A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "Shortly before 1.00am this morning emergency services were called to a road traffic collision on the eastbound carriageway of the M4 motorway shortly before the off-slip at junction 30.
"The collision involved the drivers of a Mercedes goods vehicle and a Toyota MR2.
"The 47-year-old driver of the Toyota was taken by ambulance to the University Hospital of Wales with what are described as possibly life-changing injuries.
"The eastbound carriageway of the motorway was closed for several hours while vehicle recovery and investigations took place.
"Anyone who witnessed the collision or the manner either vehicle was being driven prior to the crash or who has any dashcam footage of the incident is asked to contact South Wales Police and give reference number 2400327819."
