A Pembrokeshire town will be jumping to the sound of jazz and blues this bank holiday weekend as a hugely popular festival brings its unique vibe.
The 21st Aberjazz Fishguard Jazz ‘n’ Blues Festival takes place from Thursday, August 22 to Monday, August 26 in the seaside town of Fishguard.
Aberjazz brings a diverse lineup of distinguished musicians to Fishguard, showcasing jazz and blues influences from a broad spectrum of world music.
The festival will bring the coastal town of Fishguard to life with live music, workshops, Aberjazz parade, the Aberjazz fringe and finally, wrapping up with the Aberjazz Party with Suntou Susso.
Over the years renowned artists have played at the festival such as Jacqui Dankworth, Courtney Pine, Paul Jones, Andy Fairweather Low.
This year is no different with Lady Nade, said to possesses one of the most singular voices in the UK music scene, singing the songbook of Nina Simone.
The festival starts on Thursday August 22 with a double bill of Jonathan Nicholas & Ted Crook, and also, the Washboard Resonators.
The programme also features King Pleasure & the Biscuit Boys, Billy Thompson, the Moscow Drug Club, and many more.
The Aberjazz parade will take place on te afternoon of Sunday, August Sunday 25. It will be led by Aberjazz dragon, Idris, and the band, Les Zoings, who will lead the crowd through the town to the back of the market where they will join the Aberjam-open mic, workshops, there will also be street food and a bar.
Aberjazz is delighted to welcome Suntou Susso, who plays a Kora, a harp-lute with 22 strings, he will end the festival in style at the Closing Party in the Ffwrn on Monday 26th.
Many of this year’s artists are familiar names on the jazz & blues circuit in the UK and beyond. Others are local musicians who have built a following throughout West Wales.
Aberjazz is also well-known for its free workshops, whether you want to dance, sing,pick up tips on playing various instruments or even learn some Welsh through the medium of song, there will be something for you.
Although the main concerts are ticketed the Aberjazz Fringe sees free live music popping up in the pubs, clubs, and restaurants all over the town.
