A DISGRUNTLED shopper has branded the revamp of Cardigan’s Tesco store ‘a complete shambles’.

Tesco have defended the refurbishment – insisting it is aimed at providing 'an improved shopping experience'.

The woman – who does not wish to be identified – also claims certain items cost more in Cardigan than in other Tesco stores located in better-off areas of the country.

“For instance, a tub of lacto-free Greek yoghurt costs only £1.35 in their Bath store, yet it costs £1.60 here in Cardigan,” she said.

“Bath is obviously a far more affluent area than Cardigan, so how can that be right? In fact, I think it’s morally wrong.”

The woman says her disillusionment with Tesco had led her to shop at another town supermarket instead.

“Tesco have re-arranged their whole store and it’s a complete shambles,” she added.

“There’s less freezer space and less frozen meat on offer for a start, plus the fish counter has gone entirely.

“Against that, the booze aisle has re-located to the centre of the store and increased in size to two whole aisles which makes me wonder whether Tesco are deliberately cashing in on the higher pricing policy for alcohol here in Wales?

“They are obviously gaining a bigger profit margin than Tesco stores in England.

“Tesco frequently run out of stock of certain items and also don’t seem to be making any concessions towards healthy eating as shown by the increase in size of their sweets and confectionary aisle.”

A spokesperson for Tesco said: “We have made a significant investment in our Cardigan Superstore to provide our customers with an improved shopping experience.

“The changes have been informed by customer habits within the store.

“Tesco shoppers in Cardigan can now enjoy a variety of benefits as a result of the changes, including a wider range of frozen products and a new click-and-collect facility.”
