PLANS to build an amphitheatre near to Newcastle Emlyn Castle grounds have triggered a revolt among nearby residents.

Town councillors launched a two-week consultation following ‘positive initial responses’ for a funding application to Carmarthenshire Council’s ‘10 Towns Initiative’.

And an open day was held in the Cawdor Hall Gallery to share information about the major new project aimed at providing a community outdoor performance space.

But the Tivy-Side understands that the council have since received a number of protest letters from people living close to the proposed site.

Town councillors are now arranging a public meeting at the Trinity Church Hall at 7pm on Thursday, August 4 in order for the plans to be discussed in more detail.

Mayor Cllr Jayne Ludgate has previously stressed that ‘a collaborative approach’ was vital to the success of such projects.
