NEWCASTLE Emlyn’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the Emrys Morgan Cup ended as Brecon Corries eased a solid 5-1 win at the Rich Field.

Both teams started brightly on a soft pitch, but it was the Corries who broke the deadlock with a well taken goal from Paul Keddle on 15 minutes.

Emlyn soon equalised through  Lucian Evans, but as the half continued, the Corries’ regained control of the game through James Jeffreys' goal.

Man of the Match Austin Mellor hit the bar for Corries, and a 20-yard strike by evergreen Gav Perry went just over, before the in-form Joel Evans made it 3-1 before the break.

Shortly after the restart Corries captain Dale Evans scored from the spot to make it 4-1, but to their credit, Emlyn kept working hard to create chances, only to be denied by Declan Gaydon in the Corries’ goal.

As the playing surface deteriorated, Corries regained control, and just before the final whistle Glyn Hobbs made it 5-1 with a sweetly struck shot.

Meanwhile Ben Holt struck a hat-trick as Tywyn Bryncrug toasted a 5-2 win over Talgarth Town and their place in the semi-finals.

Holt's treble gave Tywyn the interval lead, before Conor O'Shea reduced the arrears.

However Ben Williams and Mark Edmonson goals ensured Tywyn's triumph, with James Smith netting a late consolation for the Royals.

A Matty Tong double inspired Hay St Marys to a surprise 3-0 win at home to Builth Wells, with Jack Biggs completing the scoring for the Saints.

Meanwhile Joey Price starred at the Bypass with all four goals as Radnor Valley brushed aside the challenge of Dyffryn Banw in a 4-0 victory.
