All council operated leisure facilities in Ceredigion have finally been given the green light to reopen on Monday, 31 January.

They include Cardigan Leisure Centre, Aberaeron Leisure Centre, Lampeter Leisure Centre, Lampeter Swimming Pool, Penglais Sports hall and Plascrug Leisure Centre.

Reinstatement and maintenance work at Cardigan, Lampeter and Plascrug has been completed, and all the facilities are ready to welcome back their users.

Following their use as Field Hospitals and vaccination centres since 2019, improvements have been made at Cardigan, with new lighting and flooring and additional equipment installed in the fitness suite.

Meanwhile Plascrug in Aberystwyth has a new sportshall floor; squash court lighting has been upgraded and a new air Handling Unit has been installed.

"The contact nature of some sports activities will be restricted to the outdoors for the time being to reduce the risk of coronavirus transmission," said a Council statement.

"Individual Clubs and groups will be contacted directly.

"As the risk posed by coronavirus still exists, to minimise risk of transmission and to protect both residents and staff, certain procedures will apply at all facilities.

"They include pre-booking of all activities, reduced capacities, adherence to social distancing guidelines and the use of hand sanitiser.

"Facemasks are to be worn inside the facilities (except when exercising), and there will be provision of a Covid risk assessment / return to play plan for community use."

It adds: "The Council recognises that it has been a challenging period for all concerned.

"We look forward to welcoming the residents of Ceredigion back to our facilities and providing the opportunity for them to be physically active once again.

"We must all remain vigilant as the coronavirus has not gone away. If you’re feeling unwell, self-isolate and book a PCR test immediately.

"If you test positively on an LFT, record the result on the Welsh Government website and follow the self-isolation rules."

Information and updates will be posted on Ceredigion Actif Website: www.ceredigionactif.org.uk and our various social media feeds via Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Bookings can be made by telephoning the facilities during opening hours or e-mailing leisurebookings@ceredigion.gov.uk.
