Cardigan's branch of the Royal British Legion has revealed that it raised over £21,000 for the Poppy Appeal last year.

Treasurer Lyndsay Morgan MBE has thanked all those who donated generously to the cause in 2021, and those individuals and organisations who supported the fund-raising effort.

"Though 2021 was not the best of years due to the pandemic, one bright note was that we raised over £21,000 locally for the Royal British Legion Poppy appeal last November; a really good figure that we should all be proud of," said Mr Morgan.

"Thanks must go to all the individuals that donated generously as well as the businesses and organisations that supported the appeal.

"Special thanks to Tescos and Aldis, as well as the lads that stood in the high street for hours, most of the money was raised in these places , although every penny in every poppy box is important.

"None of this could have happened without the small army of volunteers that worked to get the appeal going and our local branch would like to thank them all for giving up their time.

"For the local organisers, Keve and Rhiannon Learoyd the two weeks of the appeal was just the culmination of many weeks preparing and planning prior; great work indeed.

"The appeal covered not just Cardigan itself but also Aberporth, Cilgerran, Crymych and St Domaels and other villages."

Mr Morgan added: "Our Chairman also asked me to thank everyone concerned with the Remembrance Sunday parade in Cardigan in November, where attendance was very high.

"It was a special service, underpinned by the very smart youngsters from the various cadet organisations as well as the lovely singing of the school children of Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi.

"This youthful input was very well received, complimenting the many adults that contributed to the occasion.

"Thanks also go to the people who organised and supported their own villages’ Remembrance Sunday services in their areas.

"Prior to the Remembrance Service we were very proud to be presented with a new pennant for our Standard by the Mayor of Cardigan; recognition of 100 years of the Royal British Legion in Cardigan."
