CARDIGAN town mayor Cllr Debra Griffiths has added her own voice to the chorus of protest about ongoing issues at Hywel Dda Health Board’s mass vaccination centre at Cwm Cou.

Only last week the Tivy-Side reported concerns that elderly patients were being put at risk by the continuing traffic ‘chaos’ outside the former Ysgol Trewen.

Now the situation at Cwm Cou has been branded "a shambles" by Cllr Griffiths – who is herself battling the effects of long Covid and twice failed to receive her booster jab this week.

“I feel for the staff at Cwm Cou who are under so much pressure,” she told the Tivy-Side. “The fact this centre is in the wrong location is hardly their fault.

“They carry out an amazing service and I take my hat off to them.

“But not everyone knows where Cwm Cou is.

“There are roadworks just by the school. The location is ridiculous as is the waiting.

“I've phoned the helpline few times and it's always busy.

“There were roadworks on the old Newcastle Emlyn road, so that was shut.

“We had to go the other way round which did at least have vaccination centre location signs, but had to travel along narrow roads.

“When I arrived at 2.20pm there was a queue of about 12 cars in front of me.

“After over half-an-hour I was told by a steward to go home, bearing in mind there were queues of cars on main road, making it a nightmare to turn around.

“I was told that the two-hour wait was because only one patient was being seen at a time, and to return at 7-ish as they closed at 8pm.

“I came back at 7pm to find about ten cars in front of me and was again told to go home as there was a one-and-a-half-hour wait.

“I wasn't happy at all.

“I've still not had my booster and I'm only one patient - what about others? I feel for them, I really do.

“Something has to change.

“Having had Covid and now suffering long Covid I, like many others, need the booster.”
