A PEMBROKESHIRE secondary school has moved to quash rumours that Covid-19 is 'rife' in the school community.
Fishguard's Ysgol Bro Gwaun said that attendance yesterday, Wednesday, October 20, was at 90 per cent but not all pupils were absent due to Covid and that Covid was not 'rife' in the school.
"We would like to reassure parents that contrary to social media speculation, the situation regarding Covid absence within the school is not rife, as posted," said a statement issued by the school.
"While it is true to say that a small and growing number of pupils are currently self-isolating or awaiting confirmation of positive LFT tests, the school continues to operate the timetable normally."
"Today's attendance is nearly 90%, with all teaching staff present, although a number of pupils are absent for reasons other than Covid."
The school said that pupils who were self-isolating were provided work on Google Classrooms and that the school was continuing to operate in accordance with its own risk assessment, available on the school website.
"Pupils who have been confirmed positive for Covid will be contacted by Test, Trace and Protect (TTP)," said the statement.
"It is not the school's responsibility to carry out this function."
The school urged any parent or care giver wishing to discuss any aspect relating to Covid to contact the school directly.
