STAFF at Cardigan Tesco have been celebrating the life of a much-loved former colleague after the retailer honoured her with a Tesco Race for Life Award in memory of her commitment to the cause.

Vicky Evans, who died in 2019, was a huge champion of Race for Life and organised and joined some of her colleagues in a sponsored head shave in 2014 which raised £8,000.

She has now been named an Inspirational Race for Life Hero, and a trophy has been presented to the store in her memory.

“Vicky really was a true inspiration to us all, and she is much missed,” said store manager Rhys Davies.

“Her enthusiasm for Race for Life and for raising money for Cancer Research UK was infectious, and she was terrific at getting others involved.

“As a store, we are working hard to live up to her legacy, and colleagues have taken part in the last two virtual Race for Life events in her memory.

“This award is richly, richly deserved, and our only wish is that Vicky were here to see it for herself.”

This year, Tesco and Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life are celebrating 20 years in partnership. Since 2002, over £60 million has been contributed to Cancer Research UK.
