An 18-8 win over visitors Pembroke in the WRU Plate District H1 completed a four-timer for Crymych with one game remaining – away at Tenby United this Saturday.

Since going down 19-11 away against unbeaten Aberystwyth on September 11 the Preseli men have beaten Whitland, Fishguard & Goodwick and Pembroke at home, and overcame Milford Haven in an away game to leave them two points behind the group leaders.

The north Pembrokeshire pack was dwarfed by their opponents, but they still managed to hold their own and as the game progressed they dominated, with the front row of props Ryan Rees, Rhys Richards and hooker Tristan Griffiths to the fore.

Crymych drafted on replacement centre Ifan Phillips during the second half and he made his presence felt with some strong breaks and went in for the second try.

Scrum-half Dafydd Phillips, who impressed at the base of the scrum, got his side’s opening try, which was converted by fullback Adam Phillips, who also landed a penalty.

Pembroke’s points came during the opening 40 minutes, courtesy of  a try by Les Gibby and a penalty landed by Luke Alderwick.

Fishguard and Goodwick notched their third win in the group, courtesy of a 17-5 win over Milford Haven.

Four second-half penalties by outside half James Griffiths sealed the victory for the Seagulls, after winger James Williams' unconverted try for Milford had been cancelled out before the interval with a try by full back Robbie Jones, after quick hands from Rhys Evans and Sion Rowlands.

Aberystwyth meanwhile made it four wins from four matches at the top of the table with a comfortable 65-0 home win over Tenby United.

The 11 home tries were scored by Jack Jones (2), Dylan Evans, Carwyn Evans, Ian Ellis (2), Charles Thomas, Lee Evans, Osian Canney, Will Caron and Dan Binks.
