ABERPORTH Village Hall hosted its final performance on Saturday - after nearly ninety years at the heart of community life.

A rousing performance by Blaenporth Male Voice Choir, along with a Covid-restricted audience, said goodbye to the hall which was built in 1935 and is due to be demolished next week.

The village hall committee has secured funding from the National Lottery Community Fund plus the Welsh Government as part of a £1.1m Heart of the Community project to replace the hall.

Hall chairman Mike Harwood said: “The village hall has served our community for 90 years and while we want to record and remember that history, we also want to look forward to a new fit for the future village hall.

“Thanks to all our funders our 40-year dream to replace this hall is finally being realised.”

A blessing of thanks to the old – and new – hall was made by Rev Christopher Frost before a screening of a heritage lottery-funded film featuring contributions from senior villagers Mary Bott, Ann Rees, John Davies and Hywel Evans.
