TWO matches were cancelled in the Costcutter Ceredigion League after reports that a number of players had developed symptoms of coronavirus.

A few days after the opening midweek match between St Dogmaels and Cardigan Town, it emerged that at least five Saints players became unwell, and were told to self-isolate.

Their scheduled Costcutter Ceredigion League division match against New Quay on Friday evening was postponed as a result.

A club official said “We were advised by Ceredigion County Council that the game should be called off, and we have obviously complied in line with public safety.”

Cardigan Town’s scheduled division one match against Felinfach on Saturday was also cancelled after reports of a number of Felinfach players also developing symptoms.

Cardigan Town chairman Seamus Doherty said “All our players have been cleared, but this matter is clearly very worrying.”

Crannog's match against Lampeter, Dewi Stars' match against Llandysul, and Llanboidy's match against Ffostrasol went ahead on Saturday as scheduled, with five league fixtures having also taken place on Tuesday evening.

Costcutter Ceredigion League chairman John Jones said: “We have only started the season and this situation has arisen. It is of great concern to everyone, and we’ll see how things will develop.”
