LLANDYSUL are lying third in the South Wales Cricket Association division one, with three games remaining.

And a 29-run win over Llangennech at Tir-Dref has put Ben Edkins and Co within touching distance of second in the table Dafen Welfare.

Having been put in to bat, the Teifisiders lost Rhys Jones and skipper Edkins early, both caught by Euros Jones off the bowling of Owain Phillips, and when Rhidian Harries was caught and bowled by the same bowler for 16 it was 25 for 3.

It was Chris Strange at five who set the scene alight as he hit nine fours and three sixes in a fine innings of 77 off 74 deliveries, before finally being caught by Nathan Jones from bowler James Taube, with the score on 133.

In support, Gary Williams made 16, and Llewellyn Hughes went on to make a useful 23, but no other batsman made double figures as a couple of run outs saw saw Llandysul finish on 169-9.

Bowler Phillips snapped 3 for 21 off 8 overs, Simon Clement 2 for 41 off 8 overs, and James Taube had 3 maidens in his 1 for 34 off 9 overs. Jack Page, taking 1 for 10, was the other wicket-taker.

In reply, Llangennech opener James Taube hit 15 boundaries in making 41, before being bowled by Iestyn Evans.

He was supported by fellow opener Christopher Hickey, who scored 10 runs off the 49 balls faced in a promising opening partnership of 57, before finally being stumped by Andrew Barrett.

Four more wickets went cheaply, before Euros Jones at seven and Michael Jones at eight scored 21 and 11 respectively, but Llangennech were all out for 140 in 41.5 overs.

Medium-pacer Iestyn Evans returned figures of 4-31 off 9 overs, Rhys Jones took 2 for 23 off 7.5 overs, Steffan Jones 1 for 27 off 8 overs, and Rhidian Harries 1 for 18 off 9 overs, including 3 maidens.
