BUSINESSES who would be most affected by a proposed new two-way traffic system in Cardigan have not been slow in venting their feelings.

Ceredigion County Council aim to impose a new system as part of the town’s revised Covid-19 safe zone.

But the plan has been condemned by Cardigan Town Council who have reacted furiously to the disclosure that traffic would be directed away from High Street.

Now businesses along The Strand and Morgan Street have added their voices to the chorus of protest.

“I think it’s going to cause havoc,” said funeral director Colin Phillips. “When was the last time this part of town had traffic going two ways? You must be going back centuries.

“All that'll happen is that they’ll just move problems away from one part of town to another.”

Huw Davies, of Cardigan Bathroom Centre, said he couldn’t see the system working.

“The bend near the old Tivy-Side building is at quite a right angle and I cannot see two-way traffic getting around there easily,” he said.

“We also have around a dozen wagons delivering to our premises every day – some of them 17-tonners.

“Our access is going to be seriously hampered and we’d be causing a hold-up whenever we have a delivery.

“It the same old story with Ceredigion County Council – no consultation whatsoever.”
