A MODEL of Cardigan Railway Station in all its glory has steamed back into town, councillors have learnt.

Although the station – located on what is now the Pentood Industrial Estate – closed in 1964, the model of how it was as a working station has been re-located to Cardigan Castle.

Cllr John Adams-Lewis said the site of the former station could actually be seen from the room where the model will go on public display.

The castle agreed to house the model station at Castle Green House this summer – 57 years after an emotional crowd bearing a 'funeral wreath' waved the last train off from Cardigan as the station which had served the town for almost a century fell victim to the Beeching Axe.

The model - which is nearly two-and-a-half-metres long and a metre wide - was formerly housed at The Cardi Bach museum at Login.
