RESIDENTS in the Cardigan and Teifi Valley area are being urged not to 'lose their voice' - by ensuring that they sign up for the Senedd and Police Crime Commissioner elections.

Everyone aged 16 or over, including eligible foreign citizens, can now register to vote in the Senedd Cymru elections on May 6.

There is a different rule for the Police Crime and Commissioner election, as residents must be 18 years of age before they can vote.

Eifion Evans, Returning Officer for Ceredigion, said: “Residents are being encouraged to sign-up for postal voting, so they can cast their vote from home ahead of polling day.

"However, if residents wish to vote in person, measures will be put in place in order to ensure that they can vote in a safe environment.”

Ceredigion County Council says it is working with neighbouring local authorities and the Electoral Commission to ensure that everyone can vote safely, in line with Covid-19 safety guidance.

For those who wish to cast their vote in person on 6 May, polling stations will be open from 7am up until 10pm.

"The deadline to register to vote for the May 2021 elections is midnight on Monday 19 April," said a spokesperson for Ceredigion County Council.

"The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on 20 April, and for a proxy vote the deadline is 5pm on 27 April."
