A former radio presenter took a leap of faith recently when, after weeks of home schooling and ‘making the best of things’ like everyone else, he opened an estate agency branch.

There will be many asking why on earth would you start up a new business is west Wales during a pandemic, but Robert Jones decided the time was right to make the move from radio to real estate.

Based near Cardigan he coped with the restraints of lockdown by preparing for when we came out of it and especially what kind of work would fit around school.

Previously he had worked as drivetime presenter for Radio Pembrokeshire and still does voiceovers for announcements etc for TV and radio - most recently his is the voice you hear when you phone up for a coronavirus test.

But as a break from home-schooling and daytime TV he said it was a ‘welcome relief’ to expand his own horizons and learn new skills by training as an estate agent and now he is all ready to go.

“It’s been such a tough time for everyone, so I’ve come up with a few more incentives including a free Amazon Echo for each new sales instruction initially, and every potential buyer will receive a free face-mask, hand gel and gloves to reassure everyone involved that we are all doing our bit - even though we are looking forward to some normality soon.”

As well as learning all there is to know about estate agency work, he’s also picked up a few new skills: “I’m really keen to start the agency with a good social media presence, and so I’ve started a Facebook page, and dipped my toes into Instagram.”

Not your average 9-5 he also works evenings and weekends saying: “A lot of people want to see properties on the weekends, or after work, so to me it made sense that I offer that service too”.

Teaming up with a UK brand The Good Estate Agent, Rob has set up The Good Estate Agent West Wales. I’m really glad that I have the support from their head office, with the freedom to develop my own business in my own way – like offering a Welsh language service for instance.

“Now that we have some guidance of coming out of lockdown, I’m really keen to start helping the people of West Wales find their dream homes, and will also be glad to see an end to home-schooling!”
