WOW Wales One World Film Festival and Mencap Ceredigion have come together to help local communities by running online animation workshops for those at greatest risk of social isolation during the coronavirus pandemic.

Ceredigion Animation Club is a safe inclusive space for everyone to make and enjoy animations together.

Set up as a partnership between WOW Film Festival and Mencap Ceredigion, the project is being supported by nearly £10,000 in funding from the National Lottery Community Fund.

Rhowan Alleyne, programme and audience development manager at WOW Film Festival said: “We have been running regular animation club workshops in partnership with Mencap Ceredigion since 2018.

“Getting together as a group to be creative is always a good thing but under the current circumstances, it's much, much more than that.

“Running the Animation Club over Zoom will mean people can stay in touch and stay creative during the pandemic.

“It's a big investment in people's mental health, a lifeline. Thanks to National Lottery players, we can keep the Animation Club running online, which will help us tackle loneliness and isolation during the pandemic.

“We look forward to welcoming new participants to Ceredigion Animation Club, which is open to all.

“It doesn't matter if you have never made an animation before or you don't have any equipment. All you need is some imagination and creativity, pencil and paper.”

Those interested in taking part in “Being Me” online project and make an animated self-portrait should contact Rhowan Alleyne at rhowan@wowfilmfestival.com or call 07817 783192

There will be six Zoom workshops from January to March: Tuesday January 26; February 9; February 23; March 2; March 16 and March 30 (all 6pm-8pm).
