TWO appeals against the refusal of Ceredigion County Council to issue dog breeding licences have been upheld in court.

A general update report to licensing committee (non-statutory) on November 26 highlighted two dog breeding licence appeals, one relating to a November 2019 case and another held last month.

It also included an update on Borth Wild Animal Kingdom, with the removal of category one animals delayed by Covid-19, licensing and trading standards manage Anne-Louise Davies said.

The owners have been contacted about the removal of the lions, with the servals and lynx rehomed, before further action is taken.

The report states that on October 16, at Swansea Magistrates' Court, a verdict was delivered concerning an appeal against the refusal to renew a dog breeding licence to David Jones, and Eleri Jones both of Penwern Capel Dewi, Llandysul.

This was following a two-day hearing held at Aberystwyth Justice Centre earlier in the month.

The District Judge dismissed the appeal and supported the decision of the Local Authority in not renewing the dog breeding licence, awarding costs to the council of £4,000.

It also includes a case at Aberystwyth Magistrates on November 18 2019, of Rhydian Jones of Waun Lluest, Gorrig, Llandysul, who appeared at an appeal hearing objecting to the decision not to renew his dog breeding licence.

The court found in favour of the council and the appeal was dismissed. Mr Jones was ordered to pay £500 costs.
