PLANS are in the pipeline for a second defibrillator to be bought by Newcastle Emlyn Town Council.

One has already been installed on the wall outside the police station following a fund-raising effort in the town which saw £900 donated plus match-funding of a further £500 from Carmarthenshire County Council.

Town mayor Cllr Alan Jones told September’s town council meeting: “We still have more funds available and I know there are people out there willing to put in more money and we can get the ball rolling.”

Councillors were told that the machine at the police station had recently been used and discussed the best way forward in buying another one and getting it installed.

“This has just highlighted how important it is to the local community and we could do with more,” said Cllr Cefin Evans.

Cllr Hazel Evans said that there was perhaps a need for better signage to let people know where defibrillators were available throughout the town, while Cllr Perter Lewis suggested a list of all sites should be added to the council’s website.
