Members of both Cardigan and Brioude Twinning Committees met recently for a third time this summer, via Zoom, and exchanged ideas for a programme of activities leading up to celebrations of 50 years’ twinning between the two towns.

The original Charter was signed by both Mayors on the April 29, 1972 - so April 29, 2022 is the date to note.

All hopes of a visit out to Brioude in May this year were dashed due to Covid-19 so the focus is now on potential events in 2021 and, more importantly, in 2022.

The French counterparts of the Cardigan-Brioude Twinning Committee will hold their AGM in early October, when the focus will be on enlarging the present committee and bringing in younger members.

The Cardigan group is looking at similar aims and objectives.

Its AGM will take place via Zoom on Tuesday October 13, at 6pm, and anyone who wishes to join is invited to contact Sue Lewis: suelewis8@gmail.com or Catrin Miles: miles_c@hotmail.co.uk or 01239 613637 for further details.

An invitation has already been extended to frends in Brioude to celebrate the 50th anniversary here, in Cardigan.

This gives both groups a golden opportunity to expand membership, welcome back old friends who have enjoyed exchange visits in the past and bring in a group of younger members to ensure continuity in the future.
