Ceredigion County Council has approved the statement of accounts following a report from the Audit Wales. The report shows a positive performance of the council’s financial management.

In a council meeting, the chairman of the council’s audit committee, Councillor Rowland Rees-Evans welcomed the report. He noted that the statement of accounts demonstrated a clean bill of health and congratulated the finance and procurement service on achieving this under extreme pressure, especially considering the amount of work that took place in distributing grants at the beginning of this financial year.

Cllr Gareth Lloyd is the cabinet member responsible for finance. He said: “I am delighted that we have approved accounts showing good financial management and extend my thanks to all the staff and the auditors for their hard work, in addition to the audit committee. This is crucial in a very difficult financial climate after years of cuts to our budgets. We will continue to carefully plan our finances to provide the best possible services for Ceredigion residents in the future.”

The council’s accounts are reviewed by the Audit Wales every year to make sure that they show a true and fair view. They also make sure that they have been properly prepared with legislative requirements.

Following a vote, the council’s Statement of Accounts and the Ceredigion Harbour Authority Statement of Accounts for 2019/20 were approved. The statement of accounts has been published and can be viewed on the council’s website: ceredigion.gov.uk/your-council/budgets-finance/statement-of-accounts/.
