Canfas’ new show for October, downstairs in Oriel 2, is Devil’s Bridge artist Ag Cain’s unique retro paintings of vintage signs and posters with a twist.
Ag worked throughout the 70s, 80s and 90s as a freelance artist in the British Film and TV industry, working on set and prop decoration – both in British studios and abroad.
His current work came from his love of pre-war posters and enamel signs.
‘My paintings are an affectionate modern-retro take on the advertising of yesteryear, when the claims and promises made by advertisers reigned supreme and unchallenged over such trivial matters as accuracy, reality, or political correctness. - not to mention Health and Safety!”
Ag was invited by Cardigan decorating business Brwsh to create new work for this exhibition using its Finnish eco-friendly interior paint Tikkurila.
Ag has produced work that is both an affectionate throwback to a bygone era, but also a humorous nod to some of the ridiculousness of the age.
The exhibition runs from Saturday October 3, until Sunday October 27.
The Canfas Gallery is open on Monday – Saturday from 10.30am – 4pm.
