A CARDIGAN woman took her own life shortly after Christmas, an inquest has heard.

Susan Mary Beynon, from Llandygwydd, was pulled from the sea at Gwbert on December 28 last year. The 63-year-old was airlifted to hospital in Cardiff where she died the following day.

In a statement, her partner Nigel Clark told the inquest at Aberystwyth Justice Centre that Mrs Beynon had suffered from depression for many years and had “good days and bad days”.

Mr Clark said she had seemed fine over the Christmas period and had then rung him on December 28.

“I could tell from her tone of voice that something was not right and this rang alarm bells with me,” said Mr Clark.

“I went to the house and found sealed envelopes on the kitchen table. I opened the one with my name on it.”

The alarm was raised and shortly after the emergency services were called to reports of a woman being pulled from the sea below the Cliff Hotel at Gwbert.

Coroner Peter Brunton recorded a verdict of suicide.

He said: “I have read the notes and they are quite distressing and make it clear Mrs Beynon intended to end her own life.”
