A MAN who carried out a racially aggravated assault at New Quay has been handed a community order.

Martin Smith, of Llwyncelyn, Aberaeron, pleaded guilty to the offence that took place on October 27 last year when he appeared at Aberystwyth Justice Centre.

The 52-year-old also pleaded guilty to sending threatening electronic messages on the same date and criminal damage to a door at a property in New Quay, where again the offence was racially aggravated.

Magistrates ordered Smith to carry out 120 hours of unpaid community work within the next 12 months. He also has to pay £75 compensation for the assault, £300 compensation for damage to the door, £85 prosecution costs and a £90 victim surcharge.
