CARDIGAN household waste site at Cilmaenllwyd has reopened for essential use only.

All four waste sites in Ceredigion - Glanyrafon, near Aberystwyth; Lampeter and Rhydeinon, near Llanarth, as well as Cardigan – are open again and council officials report no major issues.

A Ceredigion council spokesperson said: “Due to the new arrangements put in place and the support of local residents the reopening has gone well so far.

“As part of Caru Ceredigion the Council would like to sincerely thank residents and the site operators for working with us and playing their part in this.

“It is hoped residents will continue to behave responsibly and sensibly by only visiting if they really have to and adhering with all the new arrangements in place. This will ensure that the demand is manageable and avoid extensive queues.

“Access to all the sites is limited for essential use only to cars with even-numbered plates on all the even days of the month and cars with odd-numbered plates on all the odd days of the month.

“If the waste items can be stored safely at home or if it they can be collected as part of the usual domestic waste collections residents should not attempt to visit the sites.

All of the measures that have been put in place are with a view of protecting the public and the staff at the sites as well as ensuring that they operate as smoothly as possible while minimising disruption to the local highway network and others.

The Cardigan site reopened on Thursday, June 11. If queues extend to the A487 trunk road, drivers will be asked to leave and return at another time/day as no queuing will be allowed on the A487.

Residents should only access from the Cardigan direction. There is no right turn off the A487 from the Penparc direction – continue to the Priory Roundabout and return.
