CARDIGAN library will partially reopen next week by offering customers a click and collect service.

From June 22, people will be able to order and collect items from the Morgan Street library, along with those in Aberystwyth, Aberaeron and Lampeter.

The click and collect service means books can be ordered online, or by calling the library, and then arranging a time to collect the items.

However, it is not possible to reopen the libraries fully so customers cannot browse the books, use the public computers, print or photocopy.

How does the click and collect service work?

  • Customers will be able to request books by searching the online catalogue, or by speaking to the service by phone
  • The books will be picked from the shelves and placed in a labelled bag which will be left untouched for a 72 hour quarantine period
  • Customers will be contacted to arrange a time to collect the items
  • There will be a 30-minute time slot to collect the items, with only three people allocated to each 30 minute slot
  • Customers can return any books currently on loan when collecting new books
  • Only one person will be allowed inside the library at any one time. If more than one person arrives at the same time, customers will be asked to wait outside the building, observing social distancing

A Ceredigion Council spokesperson said: "We envisage that the click and collect service will last for at least three months, and we will assess the situation regularly.

"During this time we will not be levying fees or fines, so any item with a charge, such as a DVD, talking book or CD, will be free. We would still like our books back, but there won't be any fines for late returns.

"We also aim to enable the mobile library service to resume on 22 June, focusing solely on providing service to our housebound customers."

Customers can start requesting books online immediately or email library@ceredigion.gov.uk or phone your local library from June 22.
