Shoppers in Slough's Cippenham village enjoying their reopened shops this week have been left reeling by the news that the Co-op in Elmshott Lane is to close its doors on July 25.
The well supported shop is a major contributor to the village's retail life and the news has comes out of the blue.
A spokesman for the company said this week: "We can confirm that our store in Elmshott Lane, Slough, will close on 25 July as our lease is coming to an end.
"We would like to thank the community for its support over the years, and priority is now being given to support and retain our amazing colleagues with positions available in nearby stores.”
The nearest Co-op when Elmshott Lane closes will be 1.8 miles away in Long Furlong Drive, Burnham.
