A CEREDIGION driver who crashed head on into another car at Llanybydder and injured the oncoming motorist has been fined more than £600 after being found guilty of careless driving.

Alexandru Gorovei, of Bridge Street, Lampeter, found the case against him proved under the single justice system at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on June 3.

The court heard that on December 4 last year, Gorovei was driving a Vauxhall Astra on the A485 at Llanybydder when a school bus had come to a stop just prior to a right-hand bend to allow passengers to leave.

A mini bus behind the school bus had slowed to almost a standstill but the defendant, travelling behind them, pulled out and tried to overtake both vehicles.

A Ford Fiesta came around the bend and was unable to avoid the defendant’s vehicle, resulting in a head-on crash.

The impact of the collision pushed the Fiesta into a hedge and the driver suffered a broken sternum and whiplash.

Magistrates found the 24-year-old guilty in his absence of driving without due care and attention and also of driving without insurance.

Gorovei was fined £660, along with £85 costs and a £66 victim surcharge. His driving licence was endorsed with eight penalty points.
