THE West Wales Freemasons have delivered £10,000 worth of goods to Hywel Dda Health Charities for in-patients across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.

The items were donated as a response to the Amazon patient wish list set up by Hywel Dda University Health Board’s official charity.

The Freemasons’ purchases of much-needed pyjamas, loungewear, dressing gowns and underwear – nearly 1,000 items in total - will be used to help patients at hospitals throughout the Hywel Dda health board area.

A wish list has been set up on Amazon to provide essentials to patients when visiting isn’t possible.

The Masonic Province of West Wales covers Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire and has 25 individual lodges, with a total of 1,300 members.

This initiative by the Freemasons was led by members of the region’s Mackworth Club, which features new and young Masons.

Mackworth Club members Jeff Lewis and Gareth Towner delivered the mountain of boxes to Hywel Dda Health Charities last week and items are going straight out to the wards.

James Ross, head of Freemasonry in west Wales, said: “Charity has always been at the heart of Freemasonry and we are delighted to support Hywel Dda UHB who are doing so much to help local people throughout west Wales at this challenging time."

Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, Nicola Llewelyn, said: “We are very grateful to the West Wales Freemasons for their generous donation, and also to all those donating to our staff and patient appeals.

“Both the money raised, which now stands at over £65,000 locally, and the wish list items being purchased are making a real difference to frontline NHS staff and to the patients they are caring for.”
