A CARDIGAN-area charity is switching all its efforts to making scrubs for medical staff and care providers in the area fighting the coronavirus panmdemic.

Cariad Angel Gowns (for stillborn and neonatal loss) is based in Beulah and usually helps grieving parents cope with the loss of a baby.

It provides cuddle cots and memory packs where, among other items, wedding dresses donated to the charity are turned into outfits for still born babies and given free of charge to hospitals, funeral directors and bereaved parents of stillborn babies.

But now charity founder Pauline Harris is hoping an army of volunteers will get behind its plans to create scrubs for the hospitals, hospices, care homes and care providers in Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire.

Volunteers have already come forward to offer help with the sewing, though any others who want to get involved will be welcomed.

“We have had so many requests for help we felt we had to do something,” said Pauline.

“Scrub huts have been setting up all over the country and we have had volunteers come forward to help.

“We have ordered the first batch of fabric from the manufacturers and that is on the way but that has cost us £500, plus there are the the costs of the patterns we will be using and reproducing for people to follow.”

A fund-raising page has also been set up to help towards the costs of paying for the materials.

“We are not eligible for any government help and out donations have dropped something like 85 per cent and we cannot do any fund-raising,” said Pauline.

“That’s why we have set up the fund-raising page and we hope people will be able to donate whatever they can afford. We really need help to fund this cause so that we can make and send out the scrubs where they are vitally needed. Any donation, no matter how small will help us.”
