Stuck for things to do with the children? Callum Simpson offers up some ideas

Ask Me Anything

The Old Market, Hove

This immersive theatre show sees the audience sit right on top of the action. Georgie Coles, Rosie Doonan and Kylie Perry make up the performing group The Paper Birds and want to answer the big questions young people have today and teenagers have sent in their questions from around the country.

Inspired by the magazine problem pages from the 90s and 00s they read growing up, the show will feature jokes, mischief and live music courtesy of Rosie Doonan (BBC Radio 2 Folk award nominee).

Set in a 90s teenage bedroom, it explores themes such as mental health, suicide, motherhood and friendship. The performance is for teenagers, grandparents and anyone in between who is still trying to work things out. Paper Birds say it’s about what they can teach the next generation and what that generation can teach them.

Upside Down House

Kings Road Arches

This quirky and vibrant attraction is one of four upside down houses in the UK. The unique house is the brainchild of Tom Dirse, who built his first upside down house in Bournemouth. Visitors are invited in to explore many different rooms that you’d expect to see in an ordinary house, including: bedrooms, kitchen and lounge. Visitors are encouraged to take selfies to capture themselves in surreal images and unique poses from an inverted perspective. So, if you fancy clinging on to the kettle or crawling across the ceiling, then the Upside Down House is ideal for you. A great way to enjoy a family day out! £5 per person.

Dorothy Stringer Dance Show 2020

Brighton Dome

Two nights of pure Dance entertainment not to be missed. Dorothy Stringer School will show off a full programme of performances in a range of dance styles. Over a third of the school’s pupils – with dancers from every year group - come together to deliver a show that has been credited with being of a professional standard. The shows follow the school’s Let’s Dance celebration which sees over 2000 performers from 76 different schools perform from Monday to Thursday. The school hopes the shows will help encourage young people to be active, but also that it ensures dance and physical activity remain a high priority in education across the country.
