THE Ceredigion coastal footpath between Tresaith and Aberporth remains shut following a huge landslip just before Christmas.

The section of coastal path from Helyg Fach caravan park to Tresaith has been closed off after thousands of tonnes of rock crashed into the sea below.

A diversion remains in place while council officials look at establishing a new permanent path.

A spokes person from Ceredigion council said: “Officers from the council are in discussions with the landowner with a view of moving the path inland and away from the landslip.

“In the meantime there remains an alternative route in place; further details can be found at the All Wales Coast Path website.”

A further section of the Ceredigion coastal path between Aberaeron and Aberarth has also fallen away and has been closed.

Members of the public are asked to keep away in case of any further movement. Signs and barriers have been put in place preventing the public from using the path.

Once again, a temporary diversion is in place while officers inspect the area further an establish a more long-term solution.

A council spokesperson added: “Sections at either end of the path will remain open; however it will not be possible to travel along its whole length and those looking for a through route between Aberaeron and Aberarth (or vice versa) are asked to consider using the roadside pavement or alternatively the route along the beach at low tide identified on the map.”
