PLANS for a new website promoting North Pembrokeshire have been met with a lukewarm response from St Dogmaels Community Council.

The fledgling scheme is looking to encourage tourism in the area and would cover the areas around Fishguard, Goodwick, Newport and up to St Dogmaels.

The community council would have to stump up a minimum contribution of £500 and the idea is that the website would be maintained by volunteers from each community.

But that suggestion drew concerns and the council questioned what benefits St Dogmaels would get from the project and suggested it may be more suited to local business involvement rather than a community council.

Cllr Jonathan Martin said: “Despite the fact we are in Pembrokeshire, we are more likely to be aligned with Cardigan and that direction rather than Fishguard.

“I personally feel we would not benefit too much as a community.”

Cllr Gill Wislocka said: “We would have liked to have been invited along to take part at an earlier stage if we are meant to be working together. I am just feeling a bit uncomfortable about the idea.”

She was supported by Cllr Jo Hutchings, who added: “It might be loaded towards that end of the county.”
