A CALL has been made to install crash barriers after a car crashed through a hedge and ended up in a garden at Adpar.

And it is not the first time such an accident has occurred on the sharp, steep bend at Bryndioddef Hill, according to home owner Anthony Parr.

The latest crash occurred last Friday evening (January 17) at around 8pm, when the car smashed through a road sign, through the hedge and narrowly missed a heating oil tank before coming to rest.

Fortunately, no-one was seriously injured.

A crane had to be used to recover the car but Mr Parr now wants Ceredigion Council to install crash barriers on the corner as he fears for both his personal safety and that of his home.

“There needs to be a barrier there and I have asked for one but have been told there is not the money to do it,” said the 55-year-old farmer.

“I suppose when someone gets killed they will then chuck loads of money at it.”

Mr Parr has lived in his home for 26 years and said a similar accident happened 21 years ago, demolishing his green house and shed. Again, the vehicle had to be removed by a crane.

“There are quite often crashes on that corner and there’s nothing to stop them coming through. We’ve been lucky it’s not happened more often and there was no-one in the garden at the time,” said Mr Parr.

“It’s a bad corner and I dread to think what might happen if a lorry came off the road there. It would just go straight through the house and flatten everything.”

A Ceredigion County Council spokesperson said: "We have no documented personal injury complaints at this location within the last 10 years.

"The speed limit at the location is 40mph and the road surface contains high friction surfacing. We will await for the results of the police investigation in to the matter.

"The cause of the accident would be one of many criteria that would influence the decision for any highway improvement including the need for the installation of crash barriers or any other measures that may be necessary."
