THE long-running saga of the Maesglas play area in Cardigan is back in the melting pot.

Plans had been drawn up last year by Tai Ceredigion to build two disabled bungalows on garages currently on the site, while the town council was scheduled to take on a long-term lease of the currently neglected play area.

Tai Ceredigion presented an outline of the housing associations proposals at last May’s meeting of Cardigan Town Council and a request for planning permission was lodged with Ceredigion County Council.

But now Tai Ceredigion has withdrawn its planning application for the site, throwing into doubt the future redevelopment of the children's playground.

“I don’t know why it has been withdrawn and we will have to see what happens now,” said Cllr John Adams-Lewis at a meeting of the town council.

The North Cardigan Action and Support Group has long been campaigning to reinstate the playground for local children.
