A PENCADER man has escaped a driving ban under the totting up process due to mitigating circumstances.

Jason Lloyd Thomas, had admitted speeding under the single justice procedure at an earlier hearing of Llanelli Magistrates’ Court and was back before the court as he faced a possible ban.

The 44-year-old was clocked at 24mph in a 20mph zone at Ysgol Gymunedol Cae'r Felin, Pencader, on May 14.

Thomas was fined £384, with £85 costs and a £39 victim surcharge, while his licence was endorsed with three penalty points.

But he was spared a driving ban as the court heard how he had a young family and was responsible for running three farms spread over a large area, with no employees to rely on and a lack of public transport.

The court also heard Thomas was the director of a specialist cabling company with contracts throughout Europe and for which driving was essential and which employed 13 full-time staff who relied on Thomas for their jobs.
