A TIVYSIDE pub restaurant is celebrating after being included in the latest Michelin Guide.

The Daffodil Inn at Penrhiwllan has been awarded a Michelin Plate in the prestigious 2020 publication.

Pub owners Gill and Hugh Matthews, who have run the Daffodil for the past five years, said: “We had absolutely no idea we had been included.

“The inspectors visit and it was completely anonymous and we did not have a clue. We then only found out we were actually in the guide earlier this month.

“It is not a Michelin star but the plate award is still a tremendous achievement and recognises the fact that we are using good local produce and ingredients and there is a good standard of cooking, while also giving our customers good value for money.

“It’s a real feather in our cap to be included in the guide and a testament to all the hard work put in by all the staff.”

The Michelin Guide’s review states: “As the weather warms up, the daffodils dancing outside draw your eye to this modern dining pub; this is also the time to bag a table on the elevated terrace and take in the view.

“Top Welsh ingredients feature in tasty, traditional dishes which are generously proportioned. Service is bright and breezy."

And in awarding the Daffodil a Michelin Plate, it adds: “Fresh ingredients, carefully prepared: a good meal."
