COULD the funds currently held by Cardigan Hospital League of Friends be used to help in the purchase of the hospital site in town?

That was the question put in a letter to Cardigan Town Council at its November meeting.

Responding, Cllr John Adams-Lewis said: “I think there is £300,000 in the coffers and where is that money going to go? A lot of money has been given to the League of Friends over the years for the hospital and I don’t think it should be used to fund the NHS at the new site. It was meant for the hospital.”

Cllr Graham Evans said: “I don’t see the difference between down here (the old hospital site) or up there (the new care centre). It’s all for the benefit of local people and I don’t see a difference.

“It’s no business of ours.”

Cllr Catrin Miles added: “It is the Cardigan Hospital and Community League of Friends, and when it is asked for something to be used in the community, then things like that should be funded as well.

“Anything that has been purchased recently by the League of Friends can be transferred to the new site.”

Town clerk Wynford Jones said he did not think it was anything to down with the council and suggested the letter writer should contact the League of Friends directly.

“The question has been asked and the public have to know,” said Cllr Adams-Lewis.
