FURTHER repair work will be required at Llechryd Bridge but it won’t be carried out until next Spring.

The bridge – a major crossing point on the River Teifi - was recently closed for seven weeks for essential work estimated at £100k to be carried out following damage during the record flooding brought about by Storm Callum last year.

But contractors for Ceredigion County Council have been unable to complete all the necessary repairs and it will now be well into next year before that can be done.

And already, fresh debris is piling up against the bridge following the recent heavy rains and flooding.

A spokesman for Ceredigion County Council said: “The work required on most of the bridge elements including the wing walls, spandrel, relief arches and parapets have been completed.

“There is still work to be carried out on the main spans arches, abutments, cutwater and invert.

“These works will start again in March 2020 when the National Resources Wales fisheries embargo preventing work in the river over the winter period has been lifted.”
