ABERPORTH Bilingual Playgroup has received the highest status possible in an Estyn inspectors’ report for the second time running.

Aberporth Bilingual Playgroup has, yet again, been praised for its current and forecasted performance – both being graded as ‘excellent’. The playgroup has been identified as having many strengths, including significant examples of excellent practice that lead the sector.

The playgroup, which offers Foundation Phase education through the medium of both Welsh and English, was inspected in November by Estyn’s lead inspector Mr Jonathan Cooper.

Among the praise in the report, Mr Cooper said that staff “plan exciting and stimulating learning activities that are fun and engage children well.”

As a result, he said, the children made excellent progress in developing their skills across the areas of learning, especially in terms of literacy, numeracy, ICT and the Welsh language.

“All practitioners are excellent language models. Their use of Welsh and modelling of correct Welsh language patterns is a strength of the setting,” he added.

An ‘excellent’ status was received in nine out of 10 areas of the inspection, including standards, wellbeing, learning experiences, teaching, care, leadership, and partnerships with the community and authorities.

Vanessa Owens, chair of Aberporth Bilingual Playgroup, said: “I would like to thank Rhiannon Fagan and Kate Griffiths, our leaders; the fantastic team of staff and management committee for their tireless work to ensure that the children of Aberporth and the surrounding area receive first-class pre-school education.

“Thanks also to the parents for trusting us to educate and care for their children, and to the community for their continued support.”

Aberporth Bilingual Playgroup already has limited child spaces for 2020 and has a long waiting list for children wishing to join.
